Speech and Language Pathologist/Professional Triathlete

I have always participated in a wide variety of activities. My involvement with sports began with competitive swimming when I was 5. My interest in athletics continued through highschool, which lead to a track/field scholarship at Clemson University. At Clemson I excelled as a pole-vaulter and heptathalete. I am a highly energetic and motivated woman. Not only do I dedicate my time and energy to triathlon, in 2004, I created Freedom of Speech, LLC- a speech and language therapy business. Freedom of Speech is about helping children and adults communicate effectively.
For the first two years of business, my life was consumed by my desire to make Freedom of Speech successful. During that time, I became a "gym rat". I spent a couple hours per day training. Going to the gym was my only outlet from the stress that accompanied running a new business.
As Freedom of Speech became established and successful, I felt there was something missing from my life. I missed competition. I met those needs by competing in my first triathlon in 2008. I unearthed a raw talent and fierce passion for triathlon. In 2009, I began focusing on my longtime, childhood dream; becoming a professional athlete and striving for the Olympics.
Now I am at the brink of yet another exciting stage in my life. I have a successful career, which is in the process of expanding. Freedom of Speech is now located in two areas, the greater Orlando area and Boulder, CO. Not only am I growing as a business professional, I am also developing as an athlete. The 2011 race season, will be my first race season as a professional; one step closer to my dream.
Being a full time speech-language pathologist and professional triathlete, I have learned how to manage my time well. I am an effective communicator, team leader, and work well with others.
Throughout my life, I've always had the support and encouragement of many people. Several of which included friends and family. I have learned endless lessons along the way. Some of the most important ones are: success is found through trials and tribulations. What one conceives and believes, they will achieve. Live life to the fullest. We are the creator and story writer of our lives...what's your story about? How does it end?
